Dwayne The Rock Johnson returned to WWE ! but What does this mean for Cody Rhodes?
The Rock went on and stated the match was "LOCKED IN" however as we all know the match never happened which is quite shocking as
A- WrestleMania was in Hollywood
B- Tribal Chief storyline was in full effect
C- It was the perfect Opportunity
When all the star align together then why did this match not took place ?
The answer is much more complex then what you might think, Again this is all speculation and a probable one.
Why the match never happened?
1- Was the reason behind Rock and Roman not happening was money ?
Answer is No. Dwayne Johnson does not need WWE's money as he's the owner XFL and with his Hollywood status WWE money does not mean anything to him.
2- Was it bad in ring shape ?
This is another term thrown around on the internet and it could be partially true. Last time The Rock wrestled (not counting match with Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 that lasted 6 second). His legit singles match was against John Cena at WrestleMania 29, where he suffered multiple injuries so this could be a partial reason.
3- Was it the schedule?
When Dwayne and Roman teased a match during Dwayne's movie, Young Rock. If the match was not gonna happen why would they tease it ? This gives indication and that the Bloodline story meant a lot to The Rock and he was heavily invested. We further learn from The Rock at Pat McAfee show that he can control his schedule and make time. So, if he has this much power and was teasing a match then why didn't he let the match actually happen. The schedule was NOT the reason.
The Real Reason
The most realistic reason is "WWE x UFC merger". At WrestleMania 39 it was announced by WWE on their website that Endeavor the parenting company of UFC has purchased WWE! With businessman like Nick Khan and Arei Emanuel wouldn't the first priority be have WWE and UFC merged under one umbrella and celebrate 🥂 this match with a BIG MONEY MATCH at WrestleMania 40 ! That being Dwayne Johnson vs Roman Reigns. This would send shockwaves on how powerful WWE has become and it's a nice round number that being the 40th Anniversary.
Cody Rhodes and the Dark Truth
Cody Rhodes the American Nightmare left AEW to tell and finish the story that being winning a championship that his father did not that being WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. However he lost at WrestleMania 39 and the story was never finished and now with the updated news about The Rock wanting to wrestle and being back on WWE and the Hollywood strike going on. It's apparent that Cody was a "replacement" for Dwayne and was never truly scheduled to be Roman's successor. This was further proven when Roman Reigns was pinned by Jey Uso at Money in the Bank.
The story would've been Cody Rhodes winning the championship for Dusty and ending Romans streak which could've happened at SummerSlam but nope. Cody was just another guy. He was simply there to fill a spot and with Roman Reigns vs The Rock heavily being rumored for WrestleMania 40 it seems like Cody will never be able to finish the story or even be involved for a Championship match at WrestleMania 40 cause realistically speaking Rollins, Gunther and La Knight has been red hot and fans wants to see him win and their hands at a title opportunity, After WrestleMania 39 Cody has been ice cold and with The Rock taking his spot back could this mean The American Nightmare will face an actual nightmare and that being someone who was recently fired from a company that Cody Rhodes founded ?
If Cody Rhodes vs Cm Punk happens at WrestleMania 40 it would be the ultimate disrespect as WWE would be giving middle finger to both saying "Hey look here are the big guys Roman and The Rock and over there are AEW guys". That right there would be WWE telling your what they think of AEW.
Conclusion
In the end this could all be nothing and Dwayne might only be back for increasing fan engagement in the product and selling more tickets instead of competing or maybe he will interfere in Roman vs Cody Rhodes match at WrestleMania 40 who knows ? Only time will tell but these are interesting theories regrading the situation.
